4 lbs Turnip greens |
1 tbsp Butter |
1 Minced red bell pepper |
1 cup Minced yellow onion |
1 Minced jalepeno pepper |
3 cloves Minced garlic |
2 boxes Chicken stock (unsalted) |
1 tbsp Hot sauce |
1 package Bacon, chopped |
Turnip Greens Directions
- Mince yellow onion
- Mince red bell pepper
- Mince garlic
- Chop bacon
- In a large pan, slowly render chopped bacon until all fat is rendered and bacon is crispy
- In a large pot, melt better
- Once melted, add minced onion, cook until translucent
- Add red bell pepper, jalapeno, cook until softened
- Add chopped bacon
- Add garlic, cook until fragrant
- Add chicken broth and hot sauce to taste
- Season with salt and pepper to taste
- Simmer until reduced slightly and flavor is intensified, stock should taste good enough to eat on its own
- Add turnip greens, gently fold until turnip greens are wilted
- Simmer uncovered on low heat, stirring occasionally
- Add a splash or two of bacon grease
- Cook until greens are softened
- TIP: Chicken stock concentrate can be used to add additional flavor while cooking the turnip greens
